The Private Magical Norwegian Woods Hike
Our trip starts at our tour center in downtown Oslo. From here we take the metro to Nydalen Station, where we hop on a bus that brings us to the edge of the forest at Solemskogen. The whole trip to the trailhead takes only 30 minutes, and we are ready to head out into Lillomarka!
Lillomarka, located in the northern part of Oslo, is a tranquil forest area known for its natural beauty and accessibility. As part of the larger Nordmarka region, it offers a peaceful retreat with dense forests, serene lakes, and a variety of wildlife, all within a short distance from the city center. The area features wonderful trails for hiking, cycling, and cross-country skiing, making it a year-round destination for outdoor activities. Its combination of natural landscapes, including wetlands and rolling hills, provides an ideal setting for nature lovers and those seeking respite from urban life.
As we wind our way through this beautiful forest, we pass small lakes and listen for singing birds, all the while keeping an eye out for trolls (When In Norway, right?). At a break, we’ll share a little treat with you — one no Norwegian would ever head out on a hike without. It’s delicious, we promise!
Lillomarka is also home to historic remnants of old farmsteads, adding cultural depth to the landscape. With its diverse ecosystem, recreational facilities like the Lilloseter mountain lodge, and sustainable management efforts, Lillomarka stands as a cherished part of Oslo's natural heritage, offering a perfect blend of adventure and tranquillity. After this magical trip we return to civilization by metro, and finish our trip in the city center, where we started.
